I didn’t get a present for Valentine’s Day this year. We didn’t have the money.
I did, however, get to iron shirts for my husband, because we’re trying not to spend the money on dry cleaning.
Valentine’s night, while millions of other couples were eating out and opening presents together, I spent 2.5 hours ironing 10 dress shirts.
I knew all along that I wouldn’t receive a present to open. My husband isn’t the flowers/chocolates/romantic gesture kind of guy. He never has been. I knew this when I married him.
He is however, the budgeting/planning/providing kind of guy. He always has been. I knew this when I married him.
This year on Valentine’s Day, when the whole world was focused on giving trinkets in small boxes, candies that get eaten up, and flowers that eventually die, my husband was giving me gifts that last far beyond the last flower stem or chocolate-covered cherry will. Things like:
And as much as I sometimes wish that I could get those presents in the small boxes, I’ll gladly unwrap the gifts of time, PRESENCE, and provision that he blesses me with ANY. DAY.
And I’ll iron his shirts any day, too.
Edited to add: I linked this up to Tuesdays Unwrapped with Emily
this is block 9 from the BOM. another really good one :)
Oh, and did I mention that I already signed up for the Fat Quarter Shop’s 2010 BOM?
Well, I did.
You should too.
It’s pretty awesome…and TOTALLY different than this year’s.
Kind of a strange title…but that’s what my under-caffeinated brain could come up with this morning!
The first preview is of Sunday Best…this month’s Schnibble challenge. Here’s my design wall layout:
I’m using Mill House Inn charm packs and also yardage for the background. I think that I’m pleased with this layout…
The second preview is of the quilt that I’m making for my sweet little niece Riley.
You didn’t REALLY think that I was going to show it to you, did you? I’ll have the real pictures up after Riley’s mommy gets the quilt. For now…preview only. I CAN say (because Riley’s momma picked out the fabric, so it’s not a surprise) that the fabric is Eden by Lila Tueller for Moda. You’ll get more info about the pattern in the Full Edition reveal :)
When I’m waiting on fabric in the mail…it’s like waiting for Christmas morning.
I almost can’t sleep.
I mean when you’re thinking of all the possibilities for this![]()
it’s really hard to think of anything else.
I know I’m not alone…you just don’t want to admit it… :)
Here’s my total haul order from Kelly (courtesy of Thelma at Cupcakes and Daisies)
Mill House Inn yardage for backings and bindings for two different quilts, and Martinique, Simple Abundance and Rural Jardin precuts. And, on a side note, look how they all seem to go together in this shot…they all have that light blue/aqua color. I guess I like that color, huh?!
A huge thanks to Thelma, again, for having this giveaway, and also to Kelly for her amazing service! I know what I’m going to be doing this weekend :)
Last week there was a “little” giveaway happening in the quilt/bloggie world.
You may have seen it here. Thelma of Cupcakes and Daisies had her 100th post giveaway, and I WON!!!! 146 comments…and my little ole’ number was chosen!
I chose a $100 gift certificate to Cotton Charm Quilts. Kelly’s customer service is SOOOO superb. I placed my order at about 9:30 am and I got a notification at about 1:30 pm that my order had shipped! That means I’ll probably get it this weekend!!!
I’ll share pics of the haul when it gets here. But I’ll tell you that it definitely involves some of this
Oh, and also I feel compelled to let you know that I’m laying off the giveaways for a while. I mean, it just seems right ;)
Happy Stitching/Quilting…or whatever you’re doing this evening.
and they’re on the way out to ps i quilt headquarters.
And just so you know…that whataburger diet coke played a major role in assisting me with this project.
I got sorta tired of making this style of block after 101 of them.
I had thought that I’d finally start working on my Fig Tree club quilt, but guess what?
Same kind of block.
So I’m waiting a bit more on that one, and I’ll be working on the quilt for my new little niece!
OK, well last month I didn’t do so well on the “official” goals, so we’ll see how February goes.
1. Monthly Schnibbles – Sunday Best. I don’t know what fabric I’m going to use yet…
2. Finish quilt for my sister using Eden by Lila Tueller
3. Finish my siggy squares for the swap…I’ve done about 25% of them as of today…
4. Complete block 9 for the BOM when it arrives mid-month.
5. Cut out and piece the sashing for the BOM.
I think that I’ll leave it there for my official goals. It’s really not good to fail too much :)
