The last quilt of the year

I gave myself the goal of finishing the borders on this quilt today…and I did it.

I really enjoy this quilt.  Already.  And it’s not even quilted yet.

wild thing finished (3) Once again, this is Santorini fabric by Lila Tueller for Moda, and the pattern is Wild Thing by Thimble Blossoms.  The one thing that I did differently from the pattern as printed is I left out the ricrac.  I think that it would have looked cute…I just didn’t have any and I needed to finish this one up this year.

Happy New Year!!!!

I am so blessed!

The last year has been so crazy.  There have been many ups and many downs, but boy oh boy did it end AMAZINGLY!

My husband and I were able to provide our children a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS, and in this year of MAJOR FINANCIAL ISSUES, that was a huge blessing.DSCN1451 My husband and I were able to purchase little things for each other, too, and that was an unexpected treat.

I received some wonderful gifts from unexpected sources, as well.

As you may remember from this post, I was participating with a TON of other people in a fun game of holiday bingo.  Well, to my extreme surprise, I won one of the daily prizes…and guess what it was?  One of these:

(picture from the In Stitches blog)

I. CAN’T. WAIT!!!!!

Then there was another little fun post that you may remember here.  Well again to my major major major surprise, I was chosen by “santa” for another amazing giveaway.  I won the Stella Blue Kit…(see my name is on it and everything!) And here’s another pic from her blog…showing all the gorgeous fabric included in this kit…

My sister sent me this lovely Jelly Roll for Christmas…she knows me so well :)

(this picture is from here…so it’s just a picture…not the ACTUAL one that I got.  Also…she’s having a HUGE sale right now…so head on over…QUICKLY!!!)

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Christmas so wonderful!  We love you all!!!

Santa Baby…

You see, Santa, here’s the thing.

I really was good this year.  And by good…I mean…GOOD!

I became an “OFFICIAL” quilter this year…(see…good!)

I really did do such a good job at using what I have.

And therefore, I present to you my quilting Christmas list:

First, because I’ve LOVED me some Schnibbles…

And, this, well because it’s been EVERYWHERE…and I STILL DON’T HAVE ANY!  (and I’m insanely jealous of all of those lovely people out there who DO have it!)

This, too, would be fun to have since there are SO MANY AWESOME layer cake patterns out there…and with a name like Panache, who could resist…really?!

And finally, this sweet little ditty of a kit…

It uses American Primer and everything…which I personally believe was one of the most under recognized collections from the last year or two…

I.

LOVE.

IT.

(P.S.  I’ve also heard that someone else is going to be doing this particular kit this year…and I’d love to have a quilt-a-long with her!!!)

Well, there you have it Santa.  My last Christmas list of the year.

Well, for now.

Oh, btw, I did hear that Kelly over at Cotton Chart Quilts/Charming Chatter is providing some EXCELLENT expediting services for fulfilling wishes this year.  If you’re in a bind…she’s really reliable :)

Thanks again Santa…

Peace out.

and Amen.

a few long over due items

on thursday last week i stayed at home with the boys, and i was able to go to Nicholas’ school program.  Unfortunately I was stuck in the VERY BACK row…and this was the best shot…I emphasize the BEST SHOT…nab christmas program 2009 You know…he’s the one right there…the long haired reindeer with the very non-christmas-ey sweater on…  I just had a brain fart that morning, I guess.

I finished the middle of my Wild Thing quilt.  Got the fabric in the mail yesterday for the border…on sale…woo hoo!…so it will go on today or tomorrow.  The fabric is Santorini by Lila Tueller for Moda, and the pattern is Wild Thing by Camille of Thimble Blossoms.wild thing santorini middle It’s a bit wrinkled…and that bottom row is even…just doesn’t look it from here.

I have also been stitching a bit more this week.  I FINALLY got a picture of that infamous Bluebell (Nora Corbett)…bluebell I also pulled my Peppermint Twist out.  I haven’t worked on this in MONTHS…but here’s where it stands today…peppermint twist 122209

Well, we’re sick at my house, peeps, so I’m off to medicate myself…and then stitch…I think :)  Later this evening will be some candy making!!!!

Deeeaaar Santa...

I have been REALLY good this year...

I have completed lots of projects, and I have fewer WIPS than I started the year with. I would like to present the following as options for Christmas presents for me:

1. Madeline Wall Hanging Kit. I have just the PERFECT spot for this in my foyer...2. Anything by Paula Prass...but in particular...this would be great!
3. Attitude Girls by Mary Englebriet. Enough said.
Please Santa (aka Kimberly...or any of the elves...or elflets)? Please Please Please?!
Amen.

The long overdue Vegas/Thanksgiving Post

Well peeps, we’re obviously back from Vegas…and boy what a trip it was.  I can truly say that I. WILL. NEVER. travel with children under the age of 5 on a plane ever again.  We will drive everywhere…everywhere…EVERYWHERE!  And if we can’t drive…we won’t take the kids, or we won’t go!

So, now that we’ve established that :)

We stayed with my sister and her husband.  They live in North Las Vegas, so it was not really on the strip AT ALL.  It’s just like being in any normal city.  On Wednesday we did a lot of playing…at home…DSCN1117 DSCN1118 and we also went to one of the bases in the LV area (Nellis) to walk around for a while.  The boys loved all of the “stuff”, of course… 005 DSCN1126 I was the party pooper on Wed, so we came home early.

Thursday was the big Turkey day, so there was lots of cooking and even more eating!DSCN1170 DSCN1172 DSCN1175 I’m the one in the white who looks pg…and Aunt Susan is on the left ACTUALLY pg but can’t tell, can ya!!!  I know…she’s gonna be one who walks out of the hospital in their size 4 jeans…

Friday Aunt Susan and I had a great day running around Vegas to quilt stores, cross stitch stores, lunch, and getting lost! trying to find a maternity store that truly didn’t exist…I SWEAR!

First stop of the day was the most important…DSCN1185

Next, and equally as important was Quiltique (and as smart Aunt Susan so politely informed me…it is pronounced similar to “antique” not “QUILT. E. Q.”  like BBQ…)DSCN1190 DSCN1188 DSCN1186 DSCN1187 How cute is this store!  I. LOVE. that they have that little compartment of fat quarters on top of each shelf…and that they coordinate with the collections right beneath…very smart ladies!  And…see those really thick bolts of Mill House Inn on the bottom left shelf?  That was FLANNEL…I KNOW!  I swear that the bolt of light pink polka dot flannel nearly leapt into my suitcase…  I purchased a few FQs of Paula Prass fabric, a cute FQ of some roosters, and a Mill House Inn Charm Pack.Quiltique purchase

Next was a quick stop at Stitcher’s Paradise.  Only picture is what I bought…some Nora Corbett fairies.  I particularly thought that this shop did an EXCELLENT job of having current models displayed in their shop.  Very very very nice shop and owner!DSCN1259

Next was lunch, and this was so funny.  So, my name is Dianne, right?  Well, we went to Panera Bread, and the lady asks for my name.  I tell her “Dianne” and look how she spelled it…DSCN1191 Really?  Good thing the food was good :)  Here’s what I had…(trying out the food setting on my camera!)DSCN1192 The last stop was Nancy’s Quilt Shop.  No pictures of the shop, but I did purchase a few 1/2 yards and some FQs.  All in all a great day!Nancy's Quilt Shop purchase

Saturday we went to the strip for a few hours…basically cause we were LV newbies and you can’t go without at least saying that you were on the strip, right?!DSCN1198 DSCN1199

DSCN1213 bellagio fix Hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving out there, too!

Until next time…  :)

Snow in Texas

OK…I’m interrupting the post that I had planned to put up today to share a few pictures of the snow that we had yesterday in Houston.  It was a lot of fun for us down here totally not used to it like you folks up north!DSCN1221Nicholas and I went outside when it first started.  I thought…this is probably it, so I’ll just “run” out real quick…DSCN1222  Told ya…total snow rookie.  And yes, those ARE my pajama pants you see…along with the really bad pedicure…  You’re only gonna see real life on this blog :)

I took a picture of the fence outside my kitchen window when it first started.  The spots are snow…not bird poop…I promise…DSCN1215And just about an hour or two later, this is what we had… DSCN1231 I know it’s not impressive for you in the north, but for us this is huge…  OK…now on to the obligatory home and kid pictures of snow and snowmen!DSCN1239 DSCN1226 DSCN1229 DSCN1242 DSCN1246 DSCN1234 DSCN1227 Hope that your Friday was as fun as ours was!
