new furniture to love…

So when I tell you I feel like we got a deal…I tell ya…we got a deal!

Email from hubby:  hey babe (that’s me), uh coworker is selling an antique buffet that he’s had for about 20 years.  It’s from about the 1910’s or 1920’s and it’s in good shape.  You interested?

Me:  Maybe how much is he selling it for?

Darling hubby completely unaware of the amazing deal falling into our lap:  He really is trying to get $250, but since it’s us he said he’d take no more than $200.

Me:  uh, YEAH we’re interested!  HELLO!!!…

Sweet hubby who’s now smiling cause he’s made my day:  Oh, OK.  Well I’ll let him know.

Today my hubby and I switched cars (I drive the SUV) so that he can pick up said buffet.  And let me tell you, I think we got a steal of a deal for $200!  Well, maybe not a steal, but I swear I couldn’t even get a particle board buffet for less than $400 and this baby is SOLID WOOD beautiful!

LOVE the Sterling Silverplate handles…check out the detail…

And check this out…cool writing on the inside drawer (and some damage…but ignore that part and check out the writing).  I’m hoping that it isn’t Burlington as in the coat factory…but even still…it’s cool to think about.  Any ideas where it might have come from?

All in all, I’m loving it.  Funny how this one piece of furniture makes me feel pretty grown up.  I guess ‘cause it’s all antique and stuff.  Who knows.  Amazing how I can buy a house, bear two children, and it still takes a buffet to be a grown up…

And, and, wanna know the best part?  I have yet another surface to decorate seasonally!  But before that…I definitely see a lamp and perhaps a topiary or two in my immediate future…

Dianne, you did score a great deal! It's nice when that happens.

I'm catching up on your blog. I love the bee theme and I want to get the GH Colonial Series coming out in Book #3!

Love the quilts, especially that first one!

Ooh.Pretty! DH was a good shopper. It's neat to have a great place to store your china, plus decorate. Lucky you.

What a beautiful piece and so much storage space.

You really did receive a good deal. This is a lovely piece and is worth much more then $200.

As for the signature, I have no idea - you may have to apply for Antiques Roadshow :-)

It's lovely!

I've just bought a new house, and I keep looking at all these blank wall & floor spaces, and think that I need to get buffets, etc., so that I'll not only not have such empty rooms, but also so that I will have table tops etc. for setting out seasonal displays.

Congratulations on your great score!

I have a mahogany one that I decorate in seasons too, only it's been relagated to the basement den b/c DD's piano is in the foyer. As soon as she moves out, my buffet is coming back home to it's intended spot :-)
